Managing Director, Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES)
João Carlos Ferraz is Managing Director at the Brazilian Development Bank, BNDES. BNDES is responsible for most of the long term financing in Brazil with the mission to foster the country sustainable, inclsuive and competitive development. João Carlos has been at BNDES since 2007 coordinating its research programme, corporate planning and financial policy design and risk management.
Previously he headed the Division of Productivity and Management at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile. He is Professor in Economics at the Instituto de Economia, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro since 1986 (presently on leave). João Carlos holds a doctorate degree from the University of Sussex, UK, and he graduated in economics and journalism from the Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, Brazil.
